Last Saturday, a friend of mine invited me to the Opéra Bastille to see Alban Berg’s second and last opera “Lulu”. This opera is said to be “one of the fundamental works of the 20th century” and an inexperienced person like me can nor agree nor disagree. The story is about a women called Lulu who gets whatever she wants in life because men can not resist her beauty and charm. She is what they call a femme fatale and several men lost their lives as a result of their obsession.
This is the second time I go to an opera and I really enjoyed it. I always get so fascinated by how powerful a persons voice can be and this way of “singing” is a very impressive one. One tricky part is to understand what they are saying but thank God for the translation screen above the stage. I do have to admit that I cheat a bit before I go and see a show. I look up information about the story, all the acts etc so I have a clear picture of what will take place between the impressive vocals.
